The Kuttanad campus is much more rural than Cochin and is an area known for its ancient temples and mangrove landscapes. Academically, the campus supports the College of Engineering and the College of Computer Applications. Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) was originally established by an Act of the Government of Kerala on July 10, 1971 as Cochin University. Cochin University was re-founded as Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in February 1986, redefining it. Objectives such as: and to promote postgraduate and post-graduate studies in applied sciences, technology, industry, business, management and social sciences. CUSAT is now a world-class university with the specific aim of developing higher education with a focus on undergraduate studies and research in applied sciences, technology, industry, humanities and business.
